  • "A semi-dockless system is the very successful Dutch OV Fiets (national public transit) bike share system. The bikes are hired mostly at railway stations across the country and are good for 24 hours of use at a flat rate (with an annual membership). For the duration that someone has the bike in their possession they are able to park the bike and lock it up wherever (this of course works well with already effective and efficient bicycle infrastructure). Bicycles have to be returned back to the station where they were initially hired from at the end of their rental though (or pay an extra fee to return the bike at another location). The Dutch system is focused largely on completing the "last mile" of the journey that somebody makes with public transit (trains). That's why the basis of the system relies on people renting and returning at the same location, as the expectation is they are completing a return trip."
