"I design for a company that specializes in monitor mounting methods, be they counter-balanced, articulated, static, wall mounted, rail mounted, etc. I'm extremely familiar with all sorts of different products in the category. I've got to say that Apple's monitor stand, while aesthetically pleasing and mechanically impressive, is utterly...I mean just UTTERLY stupid for two reasons.1) A monitor stand is just something display manufacturers accept as necessary to provide to consumers. People need to put their display somewhere, after all. But it represents a tiny tiny portion of the overall cost of the display, and if the consumer has an alternative method of mounting their display(s) then the stand becomes a throw-away item.2) Stands are an inferior method of supporting your display(s). They have little range of motion and they take up space on your desk. And who has a lot of other equipment on their desks? Uhhhh....maybe PROS?You could pay $1K for a stupid beautiful stand for 1 disaply.OR for $500 you could buy a really solid, highly positionable, space-saving, modular, multi-display mount."
"It looks way too clean to be a wrap or some kind of veneered plywood. I'm guessing it's solid wood and mitered all around. So Zuck either has a wood shop, or he simply had someone make it for him. My money is on the latter."
"If you go to ICFF then you should also go to WANTED Design's Manhattan showcase, just a few blocks south at Terminal Stores. It's smaller almost everything is very interesting and definitely more daring. It's a 2-fer no-brainer."
"Well...this sort of crash happens often enough that if engine breakaway isn't intentional...well...then something is terribly terribly wrong. And from what I've been able to determine all of these drivers and passengers walked away."
"I live to find and learn about things like this. Also, it would be perversely entertaining to explain all of this to any vegetarian or vegan friends over a dinner served on this table. Only the familiar ones that (seem to) enjoy my humor, anyway. I'm a jerk, but not that big a jerk."
"Her name is Li Ziqi (roughly pronounced Lee Tzuh-CHEE in English). She's got a big following in China, mainly a food vlogger. Obviously she's got other noteworthy skills hidden in those rolled-up sleeves."
"There are perhaps a couple of individually interesting bits of geometry. However, taken as a whole...or even a half? Yeah, that's a full 100 stories of NOPE. Just think how much worse it looks in color: gold&mirrors&gold&mirrors&gold&mirrors...."
"Extremely fun idea, but any "woodworking pro" that would go so far as to buy a fully outfitted van would be, by nature, incredibly picky about layout and space usage. The layout looks great in photos, but In practice pro carpenter vans and trailers are WAY more utilitarian...and I think more interesting."
