"I've used the butter noodler knife. Found it very disappointing. The noodles just clump together anyway, forming an awkward butter roll that is hard to spread, especially with the bent knife. But i appreciate the effort."
""We're all going for that kind of Apple aesthetic, seeking perfection, and they really help us define that."There's something troubling about this statement."
"Interesting read!Apple seems to be trending towards more luxurious products at higher price points - destined for wealthier users. Competing for the masses will only get more difficult as technology costs go down, so it makes sense.Any monitor stand with more than a tilt hinge is fairly complex to begin with, so it's no surprise that the 'apple version' of such a product could break a grand. But it's certainly no mistake that it's one grand and not two, three, or ten grand.Without a doubt Ive has immense power within Apple, and it's enviable. But this kind of a product seems product strategy and brand driven just as much, if not more so than the result of a Design Director with complete freedom and influence. We already know that when Ive wants to really stretch his wings he designs diamond rings and Leica cameras. To me this monitor stand is just another stepping stone in Apple's move towards markets that have more cash to burn."
"These are wonderful, useful objects - probably a blast to design too! I know for myself and others like me, a valet stand in my apartment would inevitably accumulate worn-but-not-dirty clothes until it looked like a sad sad pack mule about to keel over..."
"I've recently taken to sketching with sharpie and it really has a great feel. Very nice on newsprint.Probably my favorite pen right now is a black Tombow Playcolor2It's a dual tip fine point marker, essentially. One end is much like the papermate flair, and the other is like a finer but a little softer sharpie nib. Best of all, they don't bleed with marker! The catch - they are a PITA to find, especially if you just want a single color."
"The serif 'I' form of this TV's profile stands out to me a lot less than the uniquely three-dimensional framing of the screen, which I find interesting and refreshing. I wonder if reactions would be different if it wasn't called "Serif," maybe that calls too much attention to the relatively unremarkable novelty of its side profile."
"Take care when doing this - depending what epoxy you use the heat produced from curing can warm the printed part to where it begins to deform. It's happened to me!Increasing the wall thickness of your print and using an epoxy that doesn't cure too warm is probably a good idea.If you have a good recipe this is a really nice fabrication technique!"
"So what does "price as ordered" mean exactly? Are all of these prices the upfront cost, then they are custom made and actual labor / materials is added on top upon delivery?"
