  • "I would like to see more of an effort to educate cyclists to stay away from the sides of turning trucks, especially in the city. I see a cyclist die by being run over by a turning truck every couple years in the Boston area - the rear wheels cut the corner closer and cyclists die. Every time there is outrage, every time calls for penalties and arresting the driver, every time a white bike. Never do I see an article telling cyclists - watch f*king rear wheels of the trucks. It has been a couple years since the last one, so It should happen again shortly. As for this device, I think there would be to many false positive in a city (trashcans, parked cars, parked motorcycles, pedestrians on side walks, poles, etc.)  for it to be useful. As 20 year city cyclist, I say it time for cyclists to be intelligent and take some personal responsibility and watch the rear wheels of trucks, it is effective. "

  • "To be fair, there are many regulatory requirements (FDA regulation regarding label contents - for one) that are not optional. Then there are consumer requirements (size preference and as you point readability). Then there are product requirements (pharmaceuticals require certain packaging to maintain effectiveness until expiration). You should sit in a meeting where people are trying to design a drug label satisfying all these conflicting requirements."

  • "Leaks would be bad (if not catastrophic), I would not trust the dispensing arm. Many of these designs are necessitated by the stupid vapor lock required by EPA regulations. Those vapor lock spouts may be fine for filling a horizontal gas tank opening (e.g. a car), but they absolutely fail when filling a vertical gas tank opening (e.g. most outdoor equipment). I have spilled more gas with those cans and released a lot more gas vapor than I would have with a simple spout. A simple and cheap solution is to buy a "water" can, label it abundantly, and use it for gas. If you worried about the environment, make sure you cap it properly when not in use."

Never asked the owner why he did, the guy was generally an self-entitled ass so I just assumed this was yet another manifestation. After observing the other guy rifle through a couple of lunch bags, I asked if he knew those belonged to other people, he said yes and walked off eating his loot. I later found out that this known behavior and that if you did not want him taking your food, you either risked salmonella or ate early - which I did. I never quite grasped the whole situation, it was a weird dynamic, but I guess since he was open about it, people accepted it, and the ones that didn't, I think he was careful to avoid."

  • "while this is great, republicans can't even begin to match the voter suppression tactics of progressives. Living in Boston (as I am sure you have the same issue in New York City), I never encountered a republican on the ballot. For mayor this is by design, there is an open primary and a runoff with the top 2 candidates - how many times do you think a republican mayoral candidate in Boston makes it to the general election? CA has adopted this method statewide (there was no Republican running for senate in CA this year), it is also used in Chicago. Add in off-off-year election (this year will be a mayoral election year in Boston - wonder if turnout will be as good as November 2016 - not really) and off-off-year February elections in Chicago, and the design to limit voter participation and increase the influence of public sector unions (who do you think is motivated to get out in the middle of February in Chicago?) becomes pretty clear. If you think I am wrong, Does NYC, like Boston and Chicago require residency (at least a voter registration address) of all employees? Finally, I wonder how clean the boundaries of the rich suburbs of New York City are drawn? If they are like Boston, they contain heavy doses of poor inner city neighborhoods. Both sides gerrymander while progressives actively try to suppress votes."
