"Seems like a slight change on the protrusion angle (to 45deg) could get rid of the slides/hinged gates completely. Flat weldments are going to be cheaper than compound curves or cones - but at this scale, most of the cost is just per-pound of material, and hours of weld time."
"Really enjoyed the series -- any chance of a follow-up series about Festo (the pneumatics company that spun off Festool)? Their products are consistently well designed, with a similar focus on performance/quality instead of just price point -- I'm curious how much of the rest of the design culture of Festool is alive and well in Festo. Their Bionic Learning Network has cranked out some wild stuff that I'd like to know more about."
"There was a company in Indiana that figured out this mapping around 2003 -- they were using it for thermoforming applications -- they closed ~2007 or 2008, but there is still some info out there about it.https://www.rose-hulman.edu/~mellor/bmvc2003.pdf http://web.archive.org/web/20070128121333/http://www.elastic-image.com/"
