"Ha! Thanks for the shout out.
I actually grew up in the black-clad coffee capital of Melbourne and still remember the day Newson randomly dropped by the ID program at RMIT, it was late '92 and news spread quickly he was in the building. After lighting the Sydney Opera House for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games he's a public event veteran, and like any designer is going to want to do something grander. You know the precision of time is something he takes seriously with the Ikepod venture so I would imagine that regardless of the visual spectacle, the "bridge effect" is going to be a dead accurate countdown. It's a catchy term, if I was Adobe I'd start to own that to express the virtues of a certain application."
"I had a brief email exchange with Ian when the finalists were first announced and he mentioned his disappointment with installation of their prototype at Astor Place, it's intended to be mounted so that the circle looks like it's floating on the ground. According to the New York Times, Seth Solomonow, a spokesman for the Transportation Department had this to say about the planned installation.
"The final securing mechanism hasn’t been decided, but we are evaluating the sturdiest and most cost-effective method. One option is to bolt it and add a protective flange at the base. The other is to fasten it to the ground using subsurface mounting components."

Does anyone agree it's going to be hard to find a solution that will survive on the streets while preserving the desired 'floating' aesthetic?"
"The kitchen is in the main house, this is a separate dwelling intended to give their teenager some form of independence. I think the architects scrapped the idea of including a kitchen very early on due to the space constraints."
"From what I understand, once you purchase the patch, you can change where it points to as many times as you like vs. buying a new one for every link."
""A stunningly frank 21-point plan from the propaganda bureau was issued to editors and journalists and orders them to ignore hot international topics and any issues that may reflect negatively on the Olympic Games."

(Thanks Dan)"
"Designers Joris Laarman, Steven Dietz, Dieter Rams and Astrid Krogh were invited to participate in this year's 'Ideal House'. I agree It's not really up there with his achievements at Braun. One can only imagine he's making a point fitting out the space with a few design classics in the context of a contemporary furniture fair."
