  • "AS an in house designer at a relitivly small company (3 of us in the design teem) designing products made from both metal work including engineering and textiles , i get to escape from my desk quite allot, going to see end users at the start of the process, making lash up models and also running the prototypeing machines (3d printer and CNC to make working prototypes . then testing and over seeing user trial (infact iv just been out back testing a new prototype all morning) then towards the middle of the process going and seeing suppliers if there is any new technology in the design etc. and then going and seeing more end users during trialing. but mostly i sit at my desk doing CAD, Sketching, and paperwork FMEA Product risk assessments etc as do a little bit of project leadership.."

  • "unless you patented the mechanism that allows the lamp to be switched on in a sea saw motion in the context of a light ?then you could chase anyone importing it in to the region that the patent covers ? however if you didn't guess you just have design rights or maybe you  registered the design in that region, then again could go after the importers but that is harder...all that becomes allot harder if they are just selling it on line as probably dont have an importer really... a hard one .  im no expert but have been involved in patenting and registering a few designs at work. "

  • "having been involved in some design work on helmets and accessory , what would be good would be more standardization of accessory mounts, as at the moment all different lights, helmet cams ear defenders visors have different mountings meaning you can end up needing lots of slots/ sticky pads on your helmet potentially.  where as if there was more standard fittings life would be allot simpler ! but then companies would have to get on ;) "

  • "kind of an interesting one , as they are clearly not exact copies and are much rougher in design. design rights are pretty hard to protect and enforce normally especially with a char that will often fall in to the must fit rule as it has to have 4 legs a back etc to be a chair and used for a person. so these do seem to be more inspired by that knock offs but obviously close enough for the authoritys which is good in some ways. In any case I would doubt the buyer was at fault seems more likely that he just liked the look of the chair and it was a good price. seems a tad heavy handed. I work in industrial design of safety equipment where Chinese copies are a problem however this is usually patent infringements not design copies so much less grey and easier to enforce. as I said before design rights are generally harder to protect / easier to get round. "

  • "slightly strange , i mountain bike allot (allso a mountain bike guide when not being a designer) and i kite land board.the main thing i see as a problem is on most hikes you are on footpaths whitch in the uk atleast i doupt you would be allowed to use this , only on bridle ways like a bike or mountain board... allso most tracks would be just to rough to make any progress with little wheels like that and no form of propulsion other than gravity. so you could onely use it in fairly specific places like forest gravel roads where you would probably be able to go much fster that that kind of brake would cope with so may be a tad exiting ...  just seems a bit of trange concept .  ah well kinda new atleast and looks nice. "
