"Actually yellow poplar (Liriodendron) is not related to poplar (Populus). The properties of their respective woods are just similar (i.e. wood grain and machining properties). I guess however in the USA yellow poplar is more readily available than (real) poplar, so everybody calls it just "poplar". Alright. I'll stop splitting hair now."
