  • "I feel that the split between 'Industrial Design' and 'Design Culture' has become readily apparent. This is true especially in America as discussed. To an extent I think of Industrial Design and practical design and Design Culture as theoretical design. While yes, I understand that each is necessary especially for each to develop. I think that we have begun to value Industrial Design for it's uses in a business sense for growth and marketing. But Design Culture allows experimentation to develop new ideas and ways of thing that can and will shape and Industrial Design. The separation of the two ways of thinking is beneficial for Design Culture to have room to progress and change. Industrial Design focuses on generating revenue in business development while Design Culture is concerned with idea, humans, emotion.I think I personally feel the pull of these different concepts as a student. In my college experience I am a graphic design major working in a business which obviously focuses on creating revenue. While this not the same as ID and Design Culture, the comparison I'm making that the separation of 'Fine Design' which is what I'm mostly taught and practice in my studies and then in contrast, in my work where the sole purpose of design is to please a client, create awareness, and ultimately make money."
