"To see what I actually meant in prior comments, look at https://www.flickr.com/photos/sammaloofwoodworker/9153345627/Those aren’t armrests. You even have a picture of that chair in the4 sept “Rethinking Chair Comfort” article. Sam wrote about the design in FineWoodworking several times."
"Maybe those fibre optics are already recycled, or simply off cuts. Have you seen how much gets tossed when they install it? Short pieces are useless for network use.And sure, those chairs look a bit odd but Sam Maloof pointed out that sometimes the ‘arms’ aren’t for rest but handles to use when pulling the chair in etc. Some of his classic designs use that approach."
"I’d just like to point out that I have an underground laboratory in the rainforest on a Pacific island. No white Persian cat though.Nonetheless I demand...One. Meeeeeellion. Dollars!"
"You seem to have confused yourself regarding the front seats. The different design is the *middle* seat..I think the whole thing is magnificently out there. All the ‘princess pickups ‘ I see on the road now look dated, stale, lame and rather sad. I’ve no idea if it will work well but it does seem that quite a few people like it enough to make the effort to pay a fee to reserve one; these days that attention grab is valuable more than the money. Despite my general lack of interest in pickups I’m almost tempted myself. My Subaru is sat going mouldy in the Vancouver Island weather but stainless should be a bit better. Hardened steel panels might even survive the brutal parking regime hereabouts. Remember, the island demographic includes residents with used Tyrannosaur saddles in the garage."
"(Sigh, comment appeared and then disappeared; excuse any possible duplication)This is why we have Industrial Design Engineers.Way back around 1980 the Royal College of Art & The Imperial College created a joint course within the ID school. You had to have at least one engineering degree and several years of industry experience to apply. I was in the third of possibly fourth cohort.Aside from the obvious benefits of teaching engineers about ID, you have engineers teaching ID art-track students about the reality of engineering. Everyone wins."
"Yup. Mind you , as best I can remember, the pizza oven didn’t actually get to true cooking temperatures. They were damned good machines - there’s still quite a few in use. "
"You left out the best (by far) modular computer - the Acorn RISC-PC.https://images.app.goo.gl/oWteMvyyz9JNGKRBA Has a rather... extreme... expanded example.A base, a top, add slices in the middle. That’s how you do it."
" Not so difficult to understand; the suits can accommodate people of various sizes but take some setup to suit each user. Maybe this means padding or inserts, or adjustments to effectively shorten a sleeve etc. Thus, adjustable but not trivially."
