"I have always wondered about security issues in hi-rise buildings. Especially places like hotels, apartment buildings and offices. While the violent act MAY not have been preventable, what about rapid response? Why not have security stations dispersed throughout the building. At 32 stories up, why not an alarm system that alerts that a window has been shattered in a specific location. The system would automatically call the authorities with precise location information of where the incident is happening. That way, you could possibly cut down on response time... ?"
"This was a good read. I watched two stupid kids on bikes race down a hill and not even thinking of stopping as they crossed a blind street corner. A car coming down the intersecting street pretty quickly wouldve likely killed them as he has just gotten the green and accelerated. While i love the idea of making products safer, we cant bubble wrap the world. Time to acknowledge that people are getting more reckless with their own personal safety and design something to combat this lazy mindset."
"I had been working in midtown for 17 years. Thankfully im back in an office in NJ... But why didnt they just make the seats individual and spring loaded. You cant force someone to give up their seat, true. But preparing for that involves that the passenger should have some sort of control. Draconian is right. Whenever the state is involved, its always a one size fits all solution and that rarely ever works. The minute you tell people they cant moved the seats, they'll break them in rebellion. It was a bureaucrat that definitely came up with this new problem. How much will broken seats and more trains out of service cost... Geez..."
