"Goob job on finding out the tear down was of a counterfeit product. The metal parts is mounted to plastic on the headband but the thinnest part of the hinge is still metal and would still be very weak if it was made out of plastic. I like the teardown, how he explains all the parts and technical aspects. But I still don't agree with the criticism of the design and engineer of it. The designers job is to make it look good and work well, using nicer materials where needed. The engineers job is to figure out the engineer of the design, making the cost and labor as efficient as possible while keeping the product integrity. A engineers job is not to make it as complicated and expensive as possible. And criticizing of the material choice or the design is like saying the Iphone's aluminum casing is used only to add weigh.I would also like to hear more about how you can design ways to prevent counterfeiting. He can probably land himself a job at Apple or Beats if he can share some of his secrets. "
"No, I agree the headphones are over priced, But I have seen them close up and from a design and engineer standpoint, those hinges has real function to it. The claims of it being only for weight is completely wrong. "
"Hi Rain, I think that's my main issue with this quote/teardown, people are only reading the quote and believing it without even looking at the product. If you have a close look at the product. The long metal parts are hinges with a slider function. And if made out of plastic it will be really fragile, almost impossible with that design. I can understand the consumer not seeing this, the function of the metal parts, but hard to understand the engineer that wrote this article not see this. "
"From my point of view, Those parts are hinges and making it out of metal serves the purpose of strength and durability. I personally have sat on a pair of sony's and snapped the plastic hinges. This is a positive in terms of quality. Those parts would not last if it was made out of plastic. This just seems very obvious to me.I have also taken apart cheap factory branded products that have added pointless weights. I don't see name brands doing this. And sometimes parts are designed to snap together to save space or when screws is not needed. I love the write-up, the teardown of the product and would love to see more of this. Don't quite agree with the critique of the design and engineer of it. "
