  • "Maybe it's a big coincidence, but this is Ken Isaacs grid beam system to a T. The only difference is the lengths that they're sold in."

  • "For the few parts on the US where public transportation is actually viable he's right. For everyone else, making a smart car choice can do a whole lot to reduce long term expenses and loss in value ie. don't buy a German luxury SUV."

  • "I'm curious how much experience it takes to use it without dipping into toilet water, or having rear end runoff fall on it. Seems like a potential nightmare to keep clean."

  • "For cyclists and pedestrian deaths I've seen research indicating that the design of current cars is at least partly to blame. The big flat front of trucks and suvs is akin to being hit by a wall compared to the lower sloped hoods of smaller vehicles."

  • "The thing is, it ISN'T designed for hardcore professionals. It's significantly more expensive and objectivity worse than the competition. Real pros will buy an Ergotron or something similar for $500ish and laugh at the dummies that buy this vanity project. No one in their right mind is jealous of the engineering of this thing, it's dumb and inferior to other options."

  • "Seems an awful lot like they jumped into design without knowing the criteria very well. Cave diving is no joke, and I doubt there were many people involved with meaningful knowledge of rescue diving or this particular situation. Something like this could be useful in other rescue cases, but maybe a version that wasn't made out of spare parts in an afternoon."

  • "A few small notes on this for anyone whose interested. X-rite is the parent company of Pantone and Munsell, so they make a large amount of the the color standards used in both design and manufacturing. They also make monitor calibration tools and spectrometers among other things. There's a physical version of this test that seems to be significantly more difficult than the online version (for me at least), the effect of different kinds of light on the physical swatches is kinda a mind bender."
