"For fun, try stopping on a (safe) spot in a longish tunnel through a mountain with low traffic and wait for the next vehicle. You never knew how much noise tires make, from dead silent to 90dB."
"Bit afraid to share a link here, but https://dewarmemat.nl/ is a bit the same concept. The site is in dutch, I'm sorry, but it's a heated writing mat that can be placed under the keyboard and the mouse. It uses about 40 watts of AC and really helps a lot in cold periods of working at home."
"To add: you /have/ to mould the noseclip to your face, which is something the person in the top picture has not done (the clip is mostly straight on both sides of the nose).Really, it's important to do a fit test after putting on the mask. Place two hands over the mask, exhale sharply and pay attention to escaping air. If air comes out next to your nose, remould the noseclip and try again."
"Um, if your glasses fog up when you exhale your mask is not set up properly, especially not with the respirator shown in the picture which has a exhale valve. If moist air can get out that easy, dust (and corona) can get in when you breathe in again."
"Hey, and a few posts back you mentioned your LED loupe, I recommend looking at a few different kinds of wood with it. With a very sharp knife shave something off the -perpendicular cut- end grain first, then have a look and compare, you'll see what I mean."
"If you really want to know what wood that is you need to look really up close with a microscope. Every kind of tree has a different recognizable way of how the lignin and -for lack of a better translation of the word- tubes are lined up."
"Laws on murder haven't stopped people murdering each other, doesn't mean there shouldn't be laws on murder. If there's going to be a problem with 3d printers making guns, there's going to be a lawmaker who is going to try to do something about it, like, in the past, copiers not copying money. This does not mean that the solution is going to be pretty though because as they say "bad cases make bad law"."
"I concur with Stephen, there exists filler material for paint that provides grip. Think fine plastic sawdust. I'd think sand is too hard, damages the paint too much if it comes loose.I've used the plastic filler dust on my (admittedly indoor) stairs and it works great."
