  • "The hardhat pictured above isn't really that modern. Further more, a number of large contractors (like the one I work for) won't allow workers to wear traditional hardhats on their job sites. The industry is moving on to construction helmets like the Kask helmet above. The traditional hardhat falls off too easily, often before their head hits the ground. And, if you are lucky enough to have your traditional hardhat (without a chinstrap) on for the first impact the odds are it will have fallen off by your second impact. If you are serious about protecting your head, or being ready to work for a large construction firm skip the old school hardhat and get a helmet"

  • "I seem to recall the term On-Suite being used in the UK. It implies nothing about household class and everything about the existence of a bathroom or accessory room as part of the bedroom. In this day and age when people build homes with multiple on-suite bedrooms then numbering would make sense to note which might be larger or intended for the primary user."

  • "Hair balls are not the problem.  It works just like a Schluter linear drain.  Lift off the round section you stand on, there is a strainer basket below that lifts out for easy cleaning.  I've installed many similar systems and they are way easier than the old way of building a shower pan."

  • "As a motorcycle rider I have noticed other drivers blind spot warning systems. As I am coming up on a car I can see the blind spot warning indicator illuminate on the side view mirrors (I think most manufactures put it on the mirror). It may be naive of me, but when I see that come on it's almost as good as the driver acknowledging they see me. I ride 5 days a week in and around Seattle, I have no memory of any driver with blind spot indicators getting close to me. I have had plenty of near misses from people without blind spot indicators. As for autonomous vehicles I think there are going to be times for full manual AND full autonomous. Tearing up a windy road and racing a is great. I think most people would choose to sleep through their commute, or let the car drive for you while you look out the windows at someplace scenic. I'm pro ABS and increasingly pro automatic transmission. Modern day transmissions are increasingly like ABS, the computer can do the job better than the human ever will."
