Clock illumination is automatic, in the Settings Panel you can set in what hours you want to dim and light up, or leave it to an automatic system that retrieves data on sunset and sunrise from external API, so it would be worth having wifi available. I am a designer, in a room where I sleep I have 2 clocks, when it gets dark, there are really minimal lights, It's more of an object for the living room or office, but as I said, they hang on the wall with me and it does not bother me."
