"My 2cents is that I love the concept and am very excited. Like others have said elsewhere, it feels like a breath of fresh air. I'm going to hold my opinion until I actually get my hands on one though. Maybe a bit underpowered? Does the screen wobble at all while using & leaning on? Does the Ntrig stylus work any better than a Surface Pro 3's? How's palm rejection? Those are my questions and until I get to use one it's all hearsay and speculation. If it's all positive after a test drive I'm going to figure out how to get one of these into my workflow... My Apple hardware will be jealous..."
"I think the ideas are good but I agree with other comments and would also add that taking a laser measure and not having a flat base to help keep the measurement plumb would be a huge problem. I wish they would've designed the base to account for this but I'll wait for reviews before I make my mind up. I'm probably not the person this was designed for anyways. Until then, I'll keep my Fat Max (which is awesome) and my Bosch GLM80 for larger distances (which is also durable, accurate & awesome)."
"Thanks for that background. Your explanation for their name does make sense. I've always called them "design just outta reach" thinking it only had to do with price! :)"
"I've always said the same thing about "DWR" I always laughed at that name. I'm an industrial designer in my 40's and I still can't justify buying anything from DWR - it's always design just out of reach :)"
"Oh, and as Frank says in the video - the banter that goes on between all of us during the install is priceless. It's a weird sort of team bonding, stress relief that is an essential part of the installation process! :)"
""traveling to the jobsites was really eye-opening. Primarily in terms of the amount of things that can go wrong with real-world vs. CAD-world, and how you have to work with the tradesmen to solve those problems on-the-fly." Exactly Rain! I really liked this post. You often see the final glistening product but never all of the pain, small battles and triumphs that happen along the way... Thanks for posting this."
"I'm fortunate enough to be an Industrial Designer that gets to be a part of the entire process from start to finish. I'll do the initial client meeting & concept design work (sketches & 3d modeling, field measurements, shop/engineering drawings, Project manage, help fabricate in the shop when needed and am a part of the installation process. The most satisfying feeling is when you can hold up your original concept sketch or 3d model to show the client at the end of the process and can be satisfied that you were able to carry that concept through the different steps of the process and make it a reality. I think I'd really miss being a part of the final installation process... That's when you can learn the most about what you've created and can apply that knowledge to your next design project."
