"This is just another example of a designer product made for other designers. I think nendo does really beautiful work, but the emphasis is definitely on the aesthetic. In this case especially, it feels like more significance was placed on how the objects would photograph rather than how they'd function. I always feel like this sort of work is less criticized when it exists in the realm of homegoods, furniture, automotive, jewelry ect where the idea of a "statement piece" or "conversation piece" is more palpable. But when you enter the outdoor equipment/survival industry, objects are typically designed more pragmatically, and are expected to be much more highly functional. Also, at the end of the day, who wants to walk around with a goddamn rigid tube strapped to their back. Aww humbug! Merry xmas!"
