I think he would get bored and not be as creative.  I teach ID a intro sketching class and I tend to stay as far away as possible from isometric, as perspective is needed to judge a shape's proportions. If you give access to easy iso views, then the hard perspective will take the back seat (students tend to like the path of least preceived resitance).  We chose not to show 3d application to 1st semester students for that very reason. "
