  • "Good collection of vintage jeep stuff here. I should explain a few things. The Jiffy Jeep competitions and demonstrations use a specially designed shell-of-a-jeep built for disassembly. However, there were competitions held during and after WWII between teams to construct real jeeps from the shipping box to driving condition. At least one jeep book documents this in pictures (Olyslager's The Jeep). MDJuan fabricates bodies, but does not, at this time, sell complete jeeps. That said, there are enough remanufactured parts being produced that for approx $18k a person could build themselves a pretty much brand new 1940s military or civilian jeep.Folding the windshield for packing was important, but there were a couple other more important reasons for folding them down. 1) having the windshield up significantly raised the chance of a reflection from the sun, alerting enemy forces to one's position. 2) having the windshield up reduced the ability to return fire. - DaveeWillys"
