"I happen to have one of the reclining Tove chairs. Thanks for the information on it origins. For the record, the footstool I have also has piano hinges and the piece of wood that moves up hold the top at an angle has the same shape as the one in your pictures and is a different, lighter wood than other wood in the chair.  On my footstool, this lighter piece has a similar matte finish as the other wood."
