"In basic driving education classes you learn that you need to be able stop within the range of what you can see. In other words don’t drive so fast that your stopping point is beyond your headlights at night.The pedestrian walking their bike is hit at the far end of the lane they’re crossing so it’s not fair to say they suddenly jumped into the lane when it was too late to do anything.I think this video pretty clearly shows that the car was going too fast for the conditions if it wasn’t able to stop when it finally saw the pedestrian.Would a human have made the same mistake? Quite possibly. Should this car have made this mistake, absolutely not. "
