"Rain - disappointed in your (hot) take on this. You haven’t used the device and yet are commenting on usability concerns that have been downplayed by everyone who has actually used the phone.Of all your concerns the only two that ring true to me are concerns about coat & durability. And the cost is more of a psychological barrier given the modest increase over the price of the 7 plus. The notch takes up a very small part of the screen, and seems like a great trade off (uses less space than Touch ID, is more secure and seamless authentication method). You also know better than to imply that facial recognition (as implemented) is dangerous; the device doesn’t store your face just as it didn’t store your fingerprint previously."
"It's possible to build something similar, but for most DIYers the impeccable quality of the benchcrafted vises will be out of reach. For instance, some people source acme threaded rods and add their own handwheels, but the cost of materials is still substantial and that approach requires access to machining equipment. Even then, the tolerances are not as tight as the benchcrafted solution, especially in the case of the wagon vise."
"Take a look at some of the other projects the same PR firm has promoted on Indiegogo: https://www.indiegogo.com/partners/herscugoldsilver All of the projects look like they're significantly overreaching, and all of them rely on renders of products. My guess is that the PR firm takes a cut of the money raised, and doesn't really care if these products have any real shot of coming to fruition. This is the tagline of one of the other projects they promoted: "A smartwatch, a phone, a tablet, a keyboard, a dongle and a wireless headset. All for $599.". They seem to be claiming, with a straight face, that with ~$1M in funding they can deliver all of that."
