"Early on in exploring which program to use, I studied the features of several programs. I have working knowledge of 3DSMax, Pro/E and Rhino. For me the differentiating factor in any program that I used was it's workflow, a factor which is not discussed in the article. As a creative person in the industrial design field I found that Rhino had the best workflow because it was simple enough not to interrupt the creative process. Seeing the sketches i simultaneously in 3 view ports allows for very good visualization. 3DSMax is a powerful product however it is too complex and not as soft on the eyes as Rhino. While Pro/E (and similar parametric modeling tools) is very good parametric modeling in that one can change things on the fly, it somehow killed the creative process for me while sketching ideas. In addition as I have heard several people in the industry say that sometimes industrial design products are not too complex like mechanical drawings that one can start over again in a sketch in a short period of time, hence the workflow advantage in Rhino trumps the parametric feature in parametric modeling software. Moreover one can learn Grasshopper to create really complex parametric designs in Rhino if need be.I really like using Rhino for my designs."
"What would prevent the wine to spill all out when one pinches the glass like the last photo of the article? It seems like a disaster waiting to happen. This is what happens when hundreds of years of tradition is neglected to satisfy a transient need. I would like the designer to pitch the idea to a French sommelier. The sommelier would probably try to stretch the silicone glass over the designers head."
